Just In Time for Twins Fest
(and so I don’t have to lose these things in the mail)
The main reason I began making custom cards was to collect autographs of players from my favorite team, the Minnesota Twins. This coming weekend, I have a huge in-person (IP) opportunity at the annual Twins Fest. It’s an entire weekend of hanging out with players, taking tours of the dome, and buying cards and collectibles. I could spend the entire weekend there. Unfortunately, I only purchased tickets for the first night. I really wanted to go the entire weekend, and with tickets at only $8 a pop, I could have easily afforded to go, but other enormous priorities (i.e. work, buying a new house) come first.
Of course, one problem with attending the first night is that it’s the shortest event date of the entire weekend. There’s no way I’ll get to do everything I want to do. The other major problem is that not every player on the schedule will be there all three days. Plus, if someone like Mauer or Morneau are at autograph booths, their lines will be astronomical. How does one circumvent this potential disappointment? Why, you bring your lovely wife, that’s how!
Now now, don’t go pointing your accusing fingers at me, calling me a cold-hearted, selfish sod. I fully intend on doing many things in that short four hour window with her. I am also just hoping that she won’t mind splitting autograph line times with me while there. If one of us gets stuck in the Mauer line, hopefully the other can sneak over to the likely much shorter Boof Bonser line.
Today I’ve finished up cards for a good portion of the Twins roster. I now have 23 total Twins GameDay Graphers cards, one already signed. One of the cards is actually a dual card that I’m hoping Carlos Gomez and Alexi Casilla (whom I’ve lovingly dubbed "Los Banditos") will be able to sign on the day that we’re attending. I also have a Morneau which I highly doubt will get signed, but who knows… maybe word will spread that this guy with this really hot woman has brought a book of super cool home made cards and Morneau will just HAVE to see what all the fuss is about and then will give me a million dollars. What? It could happen!
So, anyway, I suppose I should probably let you all see the rest of the cards…

Yes, I realize that the photos are fuzzy and sort of out of focus. I did that on purpose so none of you scoundrels out there try to reprint these cards. Besides, you’ll get better views of them once (if) they’re signed. I’ve gotta give you SOMETHING to look forward to, right?
Speaking of which, I am planning on holding a GameDay Graphers contest. The winner will get a/some GameDay card(s) of their choice. I haven’t decided what kind of contest to hold considering that anything can be Googled these days. If this interests you, please let me know. Also, please let me know if you have any ideas for contests. I’m kind of leaning towards a game like "The Person Who Sends Me The Most Money Wins" but I’m open to other suggestions.
Wish me luck on my autograph quest this weekend! I’ll try to blog about it afterwards.
